Antony Osier's Stoep Zen constantly wrong-foots the reader, confusing expectations and refusing to be pigeon-holed into a particular style or genre. Which perhaps explains why Exclusive Books was uncertain as to what to do with it. On what shelf did it belong? One branch placed it among the gift books, another under South African non-fiction (which felt about right) while one outlet simply stacked it on the floor at the entrance. Wherever it fell seemed acceptable. The book found its readers and, at the time of writing, has just gone into a second printing.
